Help us to meet our goal to raise $14,500 on Birds Give Back!
Dr. Harold Balbach continues to support horticulture by kicking off Birds Give Back with a $500 donation to the ISU Horticulture Center for 3 student summer internships and encourages you to participate today and contribute what is feasible for you so we can meet our goal.
Your support will provide 3 summer interns for the Horticulture Center!
The ISU Horticulture Center is looking to support three students this summer as Horticulture Assistants. The students will have the following opportunities:
• learn
about the workings of a public garden
• learn
about ecological restoration
• become
more familiar with plants and landscape techniques and maintenance practices
• focus on
their respective nature driven interests
• work
alongside community volunteers and the public
• help plan
and assist with garden events
• attend a
Professional Development Trip to Wisconsin
Please consider donating today so we can make this a reality for 3 Redbirds this summer!
Thank you for participating in Birds Give Back and supporting our students.
Notes from our Summer Intern Students
Note from Redbird Katie Stahl: I am currently a
Junior getting my Bachelors in Horticulture and Landscape management here at
ISU. Having a summer internship at the Horticulture Center would give me great
hands-on experience and also help fund my education. In the future, I would
like to work in a botanical garden or center similar to the one here at ISU, so
it would give me a chance to better understand how to bridge the gap between
people and plants. Working hard is not something that I am new to, and I hope I
get the opportunity to showcase that.
Note from Redbird Lily Best: During my time working
at the Horticulture Center, I’ve created various designs as needed and have
been creating cyanotypes of the different plants in the gardens. Over the
summer, I would love to continue this project on a larger scale creating prints
of the plants that are much taller than the ones I’ve previously used.
Note from Anna Benson: Over the course of my
employment at the Horticulture Center, I have met so many amazing people and
found a deeper appreciation for horticulture. I am really looking forward to
working at the HC again this summer, because it is work that brings me joy and
being a part of it is also incredibly gratifying.
