The Lori Baum and Aaron Henkelman University Galleries Community Fund supports field trips, Teen Art Group, artists' visits, and more.
Founded in 1973, University Galleries of Illinois State
University is one of the premier exhibition spaces for contemporary art in the
Midwest. Free and open to the public, University Galleries exhibits the work of
Illinois State students and faculty and brings the work of internationally
recognized artists into our community. In addition to exhibitions, University
Galleries hosts performances, family workshops, artist lectures, field trip
programs, and more.
The Lori Baum and Aaron Henkelman University Galleries
Community Fund supports expenses associated with field trips for K-12 schools
and community organizations, Teen Art Group, K-12 and family workshops linked
to University Galleries’ exhibitions, honoraria for alumni panels, and
honoraria for inviting artists to work on projects with K-12 students and/or
ISU students.
Baum and Henkelman hope that others contribute to the fund
"to promote creativity and creative thinking, to experience diverse art
and artists, to help bring local students and families together to experience
art in person—with each other and with others."
“We are passionate about Art and want to share that passion
with others. The fund is meant to help others experience Art in-person –
whether that is through having students experience exhibitions at University
Galleries, helping students visit other museums, or providing supplies for
family workshops. Art brings folks from all backgrounds together, and we want
to foster those interactions and bring folks together to experience it
in-person. Plus, we are very lucky to have University Galleries in Bloomington-Normal...
with great exhibitions, interesting catalogs, and experiences for artists and
art lovers of all backgrounds and ages." – Baum and Henkelman
