Help our RSM students create magic during their senior internships during the 2025-2026 school year.
All RSM undergraduate students complete a full-time culminating internship experience in their last semester in our program. Recreation Management students complete a 12-week, 400-hour internship and Therapeutic Recreation students complete a 14-week, 560-hour internship.
Given how competitive ISU RSM students are when they apply for their senior internships, it’s no surprise that our RSM students get internship offers from around the country! Financial considerations, such as housing, travel, and living expenses, can impact many students’ decisions about where they complete their internship. This scholarship helps alleviate some of those worries and allows students to take full advantage of the senior internship experience.
The Nancy Niebur Parente Senior Intern Scholarship was established to honor the legacy and memory of beloved RSM faculty member and internship coordinator Nancy Niebur Parente, who passed away in 2022. Nancy positively impacted the lives of countless students and those around her during her time in RSM from 1996-2013. Nancy remained an active supporter of the RSM program and alumni even after her retirement in 2013. Nancy was a charismatic, cheerful, and caring individual within the parks and recreation profession and our program.
Karly Melendy, a senior RSM student in the Therapeutic Recreation sequence, is currently completing her senior internship at the Rocky Mountain MS Center in Westminster, CO, with the support of the Nancy Niebur Parente Senior Intern Scholarship. When applying for the scholarship, she shared, “Having this financial cushion would reduce stress, enabling me to immerse myself fully in the internship and make the most of the experience.”
Your support of this student learning opportunity would allow us to continue to award this scholarship in Nancy’s name to awesome students like Karly for years to come.
