The Black Colleagues Association is happy you chose to join us for Homecoming: Redbirds in Flight Virtual Party and FUNdraising Experience! Although it still is not safe to physically gather in the way BCA typically would during Homecoming, that’s not stopping us from having some Redbird fun. We are partying with a purpose alongside the dynamic DJ Vince Adams while raising FUNds to support the BCA student scholarship program!
In honor and recognition of Andrew Purnell, Jr.’s contributions to the Black Colleagues Association since its inception in 1984, the Association established the Andrew Purnell Jr. Scholarship in March 2021. Andrew dedicated his time, talents, and treasures to the Association but was most passionate about scholarships to continue keeping Illinois State affordable and accessible to Black students.
Since 1987, BCA has awarded 224 scholarships for a total of $273,700! This year BCA has disbursed $33,000 to 18 talented and well-deserving students to assist in offsetting college expenses with $10,500 of scholarship support provided by the Office of the President, Vice President for Student Affairs Office, alumnae who were initiated into the Theta Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Al Lewis and Steve Mills, the family of Vincent Lionel Davis, and the Eric D. Tapley, Brothers on Campus, Inc., Scholarship.
The balance comes from the support of our alumni and friends who continually give to BCA.
Now BCA comes from very humble beginnings. The very first scholarship awarded in 1987 was in the amount of $500. The ability to continue giving in this capacity is determined by YOU!
To become an active member of ISUBCA, the recommended per person, tax-deductible gift of $50 supports scholarships and organizational operations. Please also consider contributing to ISUBCA administered scholarships including:
- Andrew Purnell Jr. Scholarship
- Judge Russell DeBow Scholarship
- Vincent Lionel Davis Scholarship
- Commemorative Public Service Scholarship
- Lewis and Mills Endowed Scholarship
- Eric D. Tapley, Brothers on Campus, Inc., Scholarship
