Office of Student Research

Participation in in-depth research with a faculty mentor is one of the most transformational experiences an undergraduate student can have. Student researchers gain analytical skills, explore career interests, expand their knowledge on a topic outside the classroom, and cultivate one-on-one connections with distinguished faculty in their field. Student research fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and scientific progress as students discover the enduring joy of inquiry.

The Office of Student Research’s FIREbird research grants allow students time and resources to engage in intensive, hands-on projects. Each FIREbird Summer grant provides up to $3000 for student wages, project materials, and travel. The competition attracts applications from students in disciplines across the campus.  We’d like to offer FIREbird grants to more students and disciplines which is why this challenge is so important. With your help, we can expand this life-changing educational experience in the Summer of 2022.

We are issuing our final challenge of the night. Keith ’93 and Beth Hesterberg challenge us to complete our Birds Give Back mission.
